Dead End Path: In Loving Memory →
deadendpath:
Last week our friend Justin “JDK” Kacillas passed away. Some of you might recognize his photography work from the cover of the “Kingston” 7” or from the layout of “Blind Faith”. Justin was an amazing photographer and he will be sorely missed.
In honor of our friend and to help his family with funeral costs, etc we decided to have a benefit show. Saturday, April 7 BAD SEED MOTHER OF...

People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

– Mother Theresa said/wrote a lot of neat things. I’ve never idolized her, really- just admired her struggle in faith, the realness of her doubt, her selflessness.
Anonymous asked: "I think you have to work a lot harder to find true happiness in America" I've been to Africa before and this sentence is relatively simple but it the true essence of why I love it there. Keep your head up, you're admired.
When I decided to act a bit more grown up...maybe
You know, when I got home in June I was like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum- I didn’t want to be back in America. I thought America sucked and I was ready to get on the next plane back to Uganda. Life there is full and here it is hard for me to keep life full. To avoid superficial happiness is just easier there. There aren’t social ladders to climb, Ugandans think all of us...

From The Way Forward Project-
“Despite facing a host of obstacles, the majority of families in the six African countries addressed by The Way Forward Project – Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda – have proven to be remarkably resilient. In the face of extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS, unchecked urbanization, inadequate social services and, in some cases, armed conflict, most...

Maybe we can mean well but not do so well →
I wrote something I think could make a lot of Americans looking to adopt from Africa angry. Before I unleash it into the facebook world, I’d appreciate some feedback- let me know if you think my arguement is well drawn up and supported.
A big thanks in advance to anyone willing to do this!!
abbeyabbeyabbey asked: how do you feel about giving change or small bills on the streets of philadelphia? i once saw an ad in the paper that said it encourages those to keep asking and to stay on the streets. do you agree? what's a good way to acknowledge those in need without being a direct resource in that sudden five seconds?

Projecting Poverty Where it Does Not Exist
“Often charity to help the poor attracts more people into poverty. One example I have noticed takes place when North Americans try to care for the needs of orphans in cultures different from our own. If you build really nice orphanages and provide good food and a great education, lots more children in those places become orphans. I see this happen all over. When we attempt to eradicate...

Little rant while working on this paper...
You can argue that capitalism is great and all but it’s actually sick when you start acknowledging how disproportionate the wealth and resources actually are both at the national and international level- How much we, the world’s most wealthy, consume in relation to the majority of the world. Greed/entitlement is a problem and we all play a part in perpetuating oppressive power...
